There has been a considerable amount of activity on site in recent weeks to begin preparing the site for development. This has included archaeological works, perimeter safety fencing, vegetation clearance, installation of construction compounds and welfare facilities.
As many residents will have observed, at times workers have done and will be wearing personal protective equipment (PPE). This is in line with standard health & safety practice for certain groundwork and is part of the approved site management plans. Residents should expect to see this kind of activity – along with HGVs and construction traffic – continue in the coming months. This is essential preparation work to ready the site for development. Once fully operational, remediation works will be undertaken on a phased basis across the site. All activity will be carried out in accordance with the approved planning consent and agreed management plans. Measures will remain in place to manage construction traffic, minimise dust and noise, and reduce disruption to neighbouring residents. The site team will continue to monitor operations closely.
Upcoming works
During February a further stage of work will begin which will involve HGVs removing tested topsoil that will not be used in the development. All HGVs leaving the site will need to ensure their loads are covered (‘sheeted’) to avoid any spills and minimise dust. In addition, a road sweeper will operate throughout to ensure the highway remains clean. Dampening down with water will also be used, if needed, as a precautionary measure to control dust during excavation and loading.
Measures will remain in place to manage construction traffic, control dust and mud, and minimise disruption to neighbouring residents. The site team will continue to monitor operations closely throughout. This next phase of work will be concentrated close to the existing access to the site, just off Bewley Drive. All vehicles will use this access to enter and leave the site. To reduce disruption for residents HGV movements are restricted to 9:30am to 2:30pm during school term time. Working hours may be extended during school holiday periods.
It is anticipated that this phase of work will take around two months.
